The Deep River Within

“Many of us feel uncomfortable revealing to others - and even to ourselves - what lies beneath the surface of our day-to-day consciousness. We get out of bed in the morning and begin again where we left off yesterday, attacking life as if we were waging a campaign of control and survival. All the while, deep within us, flows an endless river of pure energy. It sings a low and rich song that hints of joy and liberation and peace. Up on top, as we make our way through life, we may sense the presence of the river. We may feel a subtle longing to connect with it. But we are usually moving too fast, or we are distracted, or we fear disturbing the status quo of our surface thoughts and feelings. It can be unsettling to dip below the familiar and descent into the more mysterious realms of the soul.”

- Elizabeth Lesser, author of Broken Open

It is my pleasure to teach a six week course based on the book by Abby Seixas, Finding the Deep River Within: A Woman’s Guide to Recovering Balance and Meaning in Everyday Life. Abby has created a beautiful and deeply enriching guide to help us find and reclaim our deep river within. Finding time to slow down and get in touch with ourselves often becomes yet another burden and item on our to-do list - probably the one item which, left undone, most makes us feel that we continue to fail ourselves because we just don’t have time to really be ourselves and create the life we yearn for.

In the course, we explore these very issues and learn how to address them.

As Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D., author of Kitchen Table Wisdom writes:

“In this beautifully written and profound book, Abby Seixas shows us step-by-step how to save our own lives. Her wise and simple suggestions and exercises will rekindle the power within you and free you to live your best life.”

In her book, Abby writes:

“In Deep River experiences, one’s sense of time is almost always altered… In the Deep River Realm, time is not experienced as linear, constraining, and stressful the way that it often is in the rest of our lives. Rather, we have a sense of timelessness or spaciousness. Time, or lack of it, ceases to be the enemy. That is why … we need to look toward the Deep River within to find balance in our harried lives: perhaps it actually isn’t more time that we need but a different way of experiencing the time that we have.”

Taking time to reunite with our deep river has far reaching benefits:

“… being cut off from our deeper nature: we are more prone to physical symptoms of stress, to addictive behaviour, to conflict and disconnection in our relationships, to dissatisfaction in our work and in our lives.”

I invite you to join me this fall, on this journey of exploring time and your deep river within. The book is included in the cost of the course, along with a study guide. Even if you have already read this book, I invite you to join us and move more deeply into your Deep River Realm.

"I am thrilled that the Deep River is being offered in Montreal!...What great good fortune for Montrealers, that they have the opportunity to participate in a Deep River workshop facilitated by the wise and wonderful Libby Parker."

You feel a river moving in you,
A joy…”
